Little Thoughts

Meet Hailey, she's my baby niece!  This girl LOVES to look at herself in the mirror.  I guess she knows beauty when she sees it.
Did you know a baby could be this adorable?  Am I biased?
This is Hailey's favorite thing to do, and one of my favorite things to do too!
Me and Annie gave her a bath and her hair stood straight up like this.  It's funny how when things like this happen to other people's babies you're like "aw cute."  And when it's yours (or your niece) you're like "That is the most amazing thing EVER!  We have to take pictures!"

Sitting up at night holding Hailey so my sister can finally get a little bit of sleep has given me some time to think.  I love holding her.  I love to imagine the adventures we're going to have when she's older.  I'm going to help her parents teach her that the world is beautiful, and people are too, and if you know God loves you, you can do a lot of things.  She will always know that her Aunt Sarah thinks she is beautiful, important, interesting, capable, and everything that matters that the world might tell her she isn't.  I love thinking about how she'll be the oldest cousin on my side to my kids.  If she's anything like her mom, she'll think up great games for them to play together and sometimes boss everyone around.  Sorry Annie, it's the truth about our childhood :)  and oh how far we've come.

I also have had time to think about all the opportunities life might afford me, which ones will be the most important to me, and how will I decide.  I came up with this list.
This is what is important to me, generally but not strictly in this order, except for number 1.  Number 1 is non-negotiably number 1.

1. Be a faithful, true, wholehearted follower of Christ and member of my church (which boils down to the two great commandments, love God and love your neighbor).
2. Have a family
3. Contribute to the world (including but not limited to or necessarily finishing/continuing my education, and having a job that has meaning and that I like).
3. Spend meaningful time with people I love
5. Do things that enrich my life (learning, playing, enjoying beautiful things, writing blogs about them, etc.)

I know there are two #3's, I couldn't decide the order.

That's it!

I can't tell you how surprised I was that I could list on one hand of what encapsulates my hopes and dreams.  I counted them over and over to make sure there were only 5 and if I was forgetting something (the counting and recounting surely had something to do with it being late at night, not my latent OCD, ok?).

And that is all, now I need to take a nap.
