The Horizon Has Been Defeated

Posting on my blog two days in a row? Is this Sarah turning over a new leaf...or is she just waiting for a cake to bake late at night? Most likely the latter. Today was foggy as...as....glasses in a sauna? Or as Kermit! Wait..that's froggy. Anyway, pea soup out there, we actually offered everyone a free trip tomorrow because we couldn't see much at all, just a glacier and a whole lot of white nothingness. We tried (sort of) to come up with a nick name for me, I've never really had one that stuck. The best we could do is Sarah-o. Pathetic. The pink salmon are dying and so am I, I hope I don't smell as bad as they do when I get a little closer to the end. I'm out of here in 5 days! I guess that means I need to pack, I guess that means I have been saying that for about two weeks now. I made a list of things I need to do before I leave, I think it was more because it's fun to make a list than because I need a list. So what this comes down to, i...

'The older I get, the more I appreciate indoor plumbing'-some old guy on the boats

The summer is slowly/rapidly coming to a close! I'm ready/hesitant to leave, and I can't wait/not sure I want to get to Veinna. I sympathize with Chelsea, BYU is so much fun and I KNOW it's fun so it's really easy to want to go back there. In fact, I am REALLY glad I'm going to be spending over a week there, hopefully I'll get bored and in doing so get more ready to go. I'm worried about my Visa, last minute changes, and being too late! I guess I feel like I should be worried anyway, but I'm not really. I took the day off today, it's sort of my last real off day. I'm switching so that I work this Saturday so I have the next one off but I'm going to Anchorage for a family reunion, so that will take up Saturday and Sunday, then Monday Tuesday home and then I leave! So I figured taking a day off to pack and call people and get things straightened out would be wise. Even though this is one of the first nice days in the last 10...I was ki...

update

Well honestly not much has changed so I'm not sure I need an update necessarily. My life is still pretty routine what with work and all. I had Sunday off and I was so excited just to be able to sit down all day. My feet hurt so bad from standing all day every day. My sister came home yesterday and I got to see Katie Bryson for the first time this summer! The girl took wwaaaayyyy too long to get back home! So I'm glad they're back and I'm sad I won't see them more because i work so much but I'm not sad that I'm working, I love work. The whole face of Columbia Glacier calved on Saturday for the OTHER boat! But we did see some pretty awesome action, we were there earlier so pillars were falling and bottom bergs were popping up. Seriously if glaciers weren't so icy I'd call them explosive. I wish everyone EVERYONE could come up and see it! My favorite part of my job is showing other people how fantastic and beautiful this part ofthe world is a...

il y a tout que vous voulez au Champs Elysee

Alright Lillian requested I make an entry in here, I guess it has been a while. I'm home and I started work on Monday which has been AWESOME. Honestly, it's all I really think about and all I do. I wake up early and go swim or run (depending on the day) then I spend the rest of the morning doing things that pertain to work, washing work clothes, looking up facts I didn't know about stuff we see, reading history about Prince William Sound, etc. At 11 I report to the docks and actually work (or that's the time the cruise I'm going on for the next week leaves anyway). Work is the BEST, ohhh my goodness I love love love it. I love being on the boat (even though it makes me kind of dizzy for a while when I get off), I love being with people out on the Sound and showing them how awesome it is, I love watching the animals and the glacier and the mountains, I love listening to the captains, I love serving the food, I love the rest of the crew. In fact, I haven't found a...

What's the Frequency Kenneth?

5-4-05 I feel like such an adult! Today I woke up, made myself French toast, did some laundry, mended some pants, had lunch with Tanya (my boss), made a Quiche with Kaela, came home and did some more laundry! And my plans for tonight are go to YW and play softball then go running, maybe catch up on my National Geographics that I missed while I was at school. I can’t believe how…normal life is without all my crazy buddies here. When I was at school I got really good at having a lot of things to do and getting them all done, now I need to get better at actually making the list myself. I start working at the pool tomorrow again, and I’m actually excited about it. Now that I have seen felt and tasted the reason I need money it’s a lot easier to motivate myself to work, and I certainly can’t complain about my job, it doesn’t get a whole lot better than life guarding (with the exception of course of working on the boats). I woke up this morning with the song What’s the Frequency Ke...

Eickelman and Piscatori

I've been typing those names over and over to cite an anthropology paper that all supposed to be taken from one book. It goes against everything I learned in English last year! I can't believe it's been so long since I've written in here, probably no one reads it anymore. It's ok though, it's worth keeping the record. Well as the semester is coming to a close (wwaaayyy too soon) I'm finding all these people I've seen in class all year have crazy awesome life-stories, unfortunately, it's not likely that some of us will ever see eachother again. That's a negative and a positive equals a negative, yes, good. Some of them are going on missions, some of them will be done with school when I get back from Austria, some of them I just really doubt I'll ever see again because our interests differ so much it's not likely we'll ever have a class again. Two things I've tried to pull from this. Number 1: You miss something every day....

je pense donc je suis

a tall personality Wow I haven't spoken French for longtemps (that's a long time). This last weekend was wild! The weekend officially started on Thursday. That was the day all homework ceased, and staying up late began! It was the first day of the BYU national dancesport competition! The real thing! Everyone from the country's most elite 4 year old ballroom dancers to full blown professionals gathered at the Marriot Center for a big ol' party. We got to be there for all three days of it! I estimate 21 hours spent watching dancing this weekend. Marriot Center bleachers get a little old after a while, now every time I sit down I remember what was doing this weekend...it's kind of painful, but oh was it ever worth it. But that wasn't even the best part of the weekend. We have been planning to have Jonathan's best friend from California come and surprise Jonathan and dancesport weekend just happened to be the weekend. So while Jonathan was out ...

Meet Derrick. This is Derrick in his soon to be new home with his best friend Jonathan. The real Jonathan was busy eating a sandwich so we had to make do. This is actually the Jonathan from behind which Derrick lept to surprise the real Jonathan. Jonathan, don't tell the fake Jonathan I said he wasn't real.

This is what we were doing at about 11 Saturday night, it was wild wild wild! That there is 9 scoops of icecream with three glorious toppings mmmmmm.

"My soul dwells in a garbage recepticle"

a tall personality The title is a small example of Deanna's most wonderful German interpretations! We have been graced with her company in our room tonight! Check out derrific.blogspot.org and this kid's artistic genius. He's my new favorite singer! I had his work stuck in my head while I was running today, and while I could watch that video over and over, it wasn't so great for running to so I decided to make up my own song about having to wake my roomate up in the mornings. I told her I'd write it down, I guess this as good of a place as any! L is for the way I have to look at you O 'cause you're the only one I'd do this to V for very late, 'cause that'd what you'd be if I weren't your roommate E for every day, you'd better be glad I plan to stay and Love is why I woke you up, in this case! oh Love is why you didn't kick me in the face! Two in a room can play but not if Lillian sleeps all day oh love is why you...
